New Book for Kids featuring Lu and the Earth Bug Crew Keeps it Green and Keeps it Fun!

If you haven’t already heard about Lu and the Earth Bug Crew, aka the Earth Bugs, chances are you will. Released earlier this year their first book titled Lu and the Earth Bug Crew Zap the Energy Spikes (Veneraxion Industries, 2008) is making its way into hearts, homes and retail stores across the nation. Written by Derek Sabori and illustrated by Steven Riley and Mark Adams, the series is intended to reel kids into an active and healthy lifestyle that focuses on conservation, environmentalism, being a good friend and having fun doing it all!

The tag-line for the Earth Bugs is “It’s never been so cool to be so good!” and their main focus is on protecting Earth from the Un-Greens: The Litter Bugs, the Water Hogs, the Energy Spikes, the O-Zoners and the Oil Slicks. Who are the Un-Greens? Well, as the book puts it, they are “inconsiderate wasters who didn’t care about the environment and they trashed it very badly!” In the story, the main protagonist, Lu comes to Earth after his home planet is indeed destroyed by the Un-Greens. Upon his arrival, he realizes how awesome planet Earth is and after meeting a very cool group of friends, he decides to lead them on a mission to take care of the planet and to look out for each other.

The fun thing about the Earth Bugs, Lu, Rock, Fern and Kordy, is that even though they are educated (Greener University) and a little sophisticated (two of the characters met at an art show supporting the Surfrider Foundation) they don’t take themselves too seriously. They surf, they skate, they’re in a rock band, an art pack and they’re always “shredding it up” and learning as they go. They zip around in the Bio-D - their trusty high-tech, multi-functional, biodiesel-powered, all terrain action van - and they’ve always got an eco-lesson to share or an example to lead by.

Beautifully illustrated and intelligently written, this Eco-Action Adventure book will hold the attention of kids (and adults) of all ages and will inspire sustainability-focused conversation in the home and in the classroom. Some concepts that are introduced and defined in the Eco-Glossary in the book are:
• Renewable Energy
• Biofuel/Biodiesel
• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
• Organic Foods
• Green Living & Lifestyles
• Eco-Action (also called Earth Bug Action!)

So whether you’re looking for a fun book that can help you speak Green to your kids or if you just like the idea of battling the Un-Greens, then “Welcome to the Crew! This book is definitely for you.
