Xylem Drives Awareness Of Water’s Role In Improving Lives

Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL) a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues, says raising public awareness of water’s true value is vital to finding sustainable solutions to bring clean water to more people. In observance of World Water Day 2012, March 22, 2012, Xylem is shining a light on the critical role water plays in improving lives around the globe.

“Nothing is more important to our physical or economic health than reliable access to clean water,” said Gretchen McClain, president and CEO of Xylem. “Yet, most of us in the developed world take our water for granted; we turn on the tap and it is there for us, clean and safe to drink. While World Water Day is an important marker of water’s importance, we need to remember that because they don’t have a steady, available source, some people think about water every day. As the world’s leading provider of equipment and services that transport, treat and test water, we at Xylem are committed to addressing this critical need.”

Xylem’s corporate citizenship and social investment program, Xylem Watermark, has developed two graphic “fact sheets” highlighting the global need for clean water. Each time the graphic is shared on Facebook, Xylem will donate $1 to its partners Water for People and Mercy Corps (up to $10,000, until March 30, 2012) to provide clean water and sanitation for school children in developing countries and to provide clean water relief in disaster areas. Xylem touches every part of the water cycle with the singular goal of enabling the sustainable use of water everywhere. The company is also committed to making a difference toward societal and economic progress. Through Watermark, Xylem works with leading international nonprofits, including Mercy Corps, Water For People and China Women’s Development Foundation. Since its creation in 2008, Watermark has provided safe water and sanitation that has improved the lives of more than 500,000 people in 20 countries.
