The Australian Youth Climate Coalition has been working away for close to a year now planning Power Shift, the first ever national youth climate event. Over the 11-13th of July, thousands of young Australians will converge at the University of Sydney for this historic event.
As a climate change summit, Power Shift is unequalled in the opportunities and resources it provides to all attending. Notable aspects include keynote speeches from Tim Flannery, Julia Gillard, Rajendra Pachauri and Al Gore (via video message), panels, skills workshops, a green jobs fair and even a concert. In addition to traditional mechanisms of engagement, the event will also stimulate discussion and inspire liveliness in the youth climate change movement with creative actions.
Change&Switch are organising Power Shift Coterie, a group who will share the experience of Power Shift together. The cost to participate in the Coterie is $375, which includes Power Shift registration, transport, accommodation, food, a tee shirt, other miscellaneous items and fun!
Organisations and various individuals have two opportunities for sponsorships. The first is the option to sponsor individual participants (in the form of full or half scholarships). The second is to support the overall delegation, as there are costs associated with the Coterie which have not been included in the participants’ fees in order to keep prices reasonable.
In return, all sponsors will receive a report which will be compiled at the end of the weekend, a mention on the Change&Switch website and any subsequent advertising of Power Shift Coterie, and the option to have a participant present at your organisation.
Movements are made up of moments. Power Shift will be the moment that solidifies the youth climate movement in Australia.
- Below is a list of ways in which you can support Power Shift Coterie:
- Covering the costs of a full scholarship or a half scholarship (i.e. either $375 or $188)
- Covering the equivalent of three tonnes in carbon offsets
- Sponsoring one of the meals on the trip (e.g. Friday night dinner)
- Sponsoring part of the transportation costs whilst in Sydney
- Provision of lanyards or eco friendly bags
- In house donation of printing and binding services (approximately 400 pages are required to produce ample guides and reports)
We welcome all support regardless of size. If you are able to assist in anyway or have other suggestions, please contact Linh Do at linh.do@changeandswitch.org or send your queries to psc@changeandswitch.org
