Change2 Presentation for CitySwitch - Innovation and Cool Ways you can Reduce IT and Office Footprint
I had the pleasure of presenting to the Sydney CitySwitch signatories on one of my favourite topics "Innovation in ICT and ideas on how to reduce your footprint."
Having been to a number of presentations around the topic of sustainability I thought I would do something a little bit different rather than show the usual graphs and let people know about some of the "Cool Innovations" happening around the IT sector and energy efficiency.
My top 10 Innovations are:
Magnetic Powered Bus in South Korea
Zero Energy Elevator - (Very Cool)
Pollution Eating Concrete
Nano Colling Particles
New Air-conditioning Process
PrePeat Printer - Reusable Paper
Smart Shower - Very mean as it stops once you have used your quota of water
Watt Watcher - Smart Meter which I have installed at home
Night Club in London which is powered by the dance floor
CyclePower - Power the Hotel for a free lunch
Finally from way left field: Discount for Cyclists - not sure about the business though!!

After the presentation during question time I was asked the following question: "What are the key innovations or barriers to reducing our footprint?" My answer was very simply people. We have come from a culture and attitude of waste. In order to bring about the change needed we need to change the way we think and look at how we use all resources.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts is it people that we need to change?

PS: CitySwitch Green Office is a growing national partnership between businesses and local government acting as environmental leaders. The program works with office tenants committed to improving energy efficiency to make a positive impact on climate change. Change2 became a signatory in 2009 and is committed to improving our office energy efficiency.
