I'm a solutions-seeker. I'm thirsty for making life better. I aspire to bring out the best in people while improving our well-being.

The purpose of my work is to help people and organisations renew our world. I do that through communication (writing, crafting concepts and stories, social media) and facilitation.

Over the last decade I've also worked for NZ's Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Landcare Research, Victoria's Environment Commissioner and at RMIT University in Melbourne.

I'm also a very active Trustee of the Intersect Trust, which planted and fertilises the Intersect Network in Aotearoa New Zealand (www.we.intersect.org.nz).

And it's not all about work...

I enjoy zooming around town on my bike, meandering down to the coast, creating playful projects, experimenting in the garden, peering through my camera lens and pottering around with friends. I'm on the floor lots too, as part of my yoga practice. I love to savour life.

Very interesting points you raise Nick. I agree with you regarding inspiration. But I would go a step further; while sharing your own story and inspiration can be very powerful, a good program should facilitate the participant to find their own…

Being change and behaviour change

The more we focus on behaviour change, the less likely we are to achieve it. That’s a comment that popped out of my mouth during a Behavioural Innovators workshop for sustainability professionals late last year. Someone called this a “Ninja statement.” It must have taken them by stealth. So if you believe in behaviour change, watch out: I’m about to go on the attack. If only they would change…Behaviour change has been on my…See More

The Buzz Beyond Sustainability

Posted on July 9, 2010 at 11:30pm 4 Comments

It’s official: I’ve ended my relationship with sustainability. We still see each other occasionally but the magic is missing. I’ve moved on to other words. We actually cut loose a long time ago. So it’s sayonara sustainability. It was great while it lasted.

Breaking up with sustainability wasn’t easy. We had a long-term relationship. We also keep bumping into each other because sustainability is still hanging out with many people I work with.…

Exploring the boundary between young professionalism and activism

Posted on February 17, 2010 at 7:00am 2 Comments

When do we cross a line from being a “young professional” to being a “young activist”?

That’s a question that emerged in a recent survey of young professional members of Intersect in New Zealand. There are some assumptions in this question, but…
